Tackling Palatability Challenges in Canine and Feline Therapeutics

ABSTRACT

Our challenges with palatability of nutrient-based canine and feline therapeutics have been ongoing since the inception of our program in 2004. Although we have been reasonably successful in the past to create products that facilitated compliance we are still challenged by the limitations created by dose or serving size. …..

Challenge: Determination of masking base system for new Weider Pet Formulation. The objective was to find a reasonable carrier for the functional ingredients of each therapy that could: 1) Mask the broad nutraceutical base without the use of MSG 2) Be different from the BiologicVET base system to maintain distinction between the two brands 3) Serve as pharmacological support for the functional ingredients 4) Support and carry inherently an extensive shelf life that may be required in the mainstream environment 5) Not cost-prohibitive in a channel where price will play a central role
